Class goals and outcomes:

-Investigate the ideas and events that significantly influenced the creation of the United States Constitution and the
United States form of government, a compound constitutional republic
-Assess the essential ideas of United States constitutional government
-Determine the importance of popular sovereignty and limited government in a democratic society
-Investigate the organization and functions of the United States government
-Assess the freedoms and rights guaranteed in the United States Constitution
-Analyze how civil rights and liberties have been changed through court decisions
-Determine the relationship between the national government and the states
-Analyze the role of local government in the United States federal system
-Investigate the responsibilities and obligations of a citizen
-Investigate ways in which responsible citizens take part in civic life
-Assess methods for respectfully dealing with differences
-Explore major economic systems
-Determine how supply and demand affect the availability of goods and services
-Examine major government structures and functions outside the United States
-Evaluate how United States foreign policy affects the world
-Explore how the United States influences other nations, and how other nations influence the United States

Learning activities:
ASSIGNMENTS: Each lesson in this course has an activity/assignment attached. These assignments are designed to be submitted via computer through the submission boxes at the bottom of each lesson's page. Once an assignment is submitted they are sent directly to my e-mail. Once the assignments have been graded they will appear on the ASPIRE website.
TESTS: There are two tests in this course, the Midterm and the Final. Both of the tests are open note- However, the answers on the test must be written in the student's own words. Plagiarizing will result in a 0.
Grading Policy:
93% - 100% = A
90% - 92% = A-
87% - 89% = B+
83% - 86% = B
80% - 82 % = B-
77% - 79% = C+
73% - 76% = C
70% - 72 % = C-
67% - 69% = D+
63% - 66% = D
60 % - 62 % = D-
59% and BELOW = F
Assignments in each lesson are worth anywhere from 5-30 points depending on the assignment.

Textbook/Resource:
There are no textbooks for this course. Different lessons have different resources, and the links to those resources are all found in each lesson. ***NOTE: The resources and websites I use in this course are for instructional purposes only. Pioneer High School does not endorse websites, companies, videos, news stations, or even the opinions expressed by those resources used***
Late Work & Make-up Policy:
All assignments for Units 1 & 2 are due by the end of first term. The MIDTERM is also due by the end of the first term. For U.S. Government that means assignments 1-14 and the Midterm are due by October 14, 2015. Then all the assignments for Units 3 & 4 (assignments 15-29) and the FINAL will be due by the end of the second term, December 18, 2015. Assignments turned in after the due dates will not be accepted. Students may turn in assignments at anytime during the term. If they received a score on an assignment they don't like the can e-mail me to get an explanation of the points missed and they can re-submit the assignment for more points. If an assignment is re-done for more points, it must be turned in by the term due date.
