Lesson/Project 17
Participate in an activity that promotes the public good
This isn't really a lesson, it's more of a project.
I want you to participate in politics. And since you are performing arts students you should use your talents to 'promote the public good.
I want you to participate in politics. And since you are performing arts students you should use your talents to 'promote the public good.
I want you to use your artistic talents to spread the word and make a difference. How do you do this? Well take a look at this Ted Talk by Mallika Sarabhai. She uses dance to help bring important political issues to public attention.
You can find this Ted Talk here: DANCE TO CHANGE THE WORLD
Like Mallika Sarabhai I want you to make a difference with art. She informed people of important issues by using art and telling stories. She used dance and theater, but you can use an different artistic medium to make a difference. If you choose to do a performing art, you will have to make a video. You can upload this video on YouTube and send me the link, or you can e-mail the video directly to my e-mail address.
If you don't have access to a device that can film, you can choose to do a piece of art that is visual. You can create a drawing (and scan it onto your computer), you can take a series of pictures (take your own pictures, don't just copy them off of the internet) to bring your issue to the public's attention. If you have an idea that isn't listed here you can e-mail me before you start your project to get your idea approved.

Make sure you put some time into your project, I’ll take off points if it’s sloppy or under-prepared.
You can earn 5 extra credit points if you share your project with people outside the class to make a political difference
If you choose a performing art, your performance should be at least 60 seconds long

To submit your assignment you need to e-mail it to me. If it's a video you can upload it and send it on your Google Drive. Or you can upload it to YouTube and send me the link. If it's a picture you can attach it to an e-mail message.
Remember the purpose of this project is to get you to think of how you can use your talents to make a positive impact on people. Think of something that you can do that will make a difference rather than something easy you can pull together to turn in.
